Women In Black

Women in Black Vigils:

WHERE: City Hall lawn facing Route 66

DATE: This Saturday (Every Saturday Evening)

TIME: 4-5 PM

CONTACT: info@newdaypeace.org

Women in Black (WiB) is a world-wide network of women committed to peace with justice and actively opposed to injustice, war, militarism and other forms of violence.

We are not an organisation, but a means of mobilisation and a formula for action. Women in Black actions often take the form of women wearing black, standing in a public place in silent, non-violent vigils at regular times and intervals, carrying placards and handing out leaflets.

February 7th GHOSTS OF ABU GHRAIB
Rory Kennedy's Emmy Award winning HBO documentary Ghosts of Abu
Ghraib is a groundbreaking examination of the psychological and
political context in which torture and humiliation occurred at Abu
Ghraib prison in Iraq. Through dozens of interviews the film exposes
the truth: the responsibility for the abuses at the prison goes right
to the top. Prison guards at Abu Ghraib were instructed to use
torture tactics approved by the Bush administration.

**7pm Gardner Auditorium, NAU Franke College of Business

February 21st IRAQ FOR SALE
IRAQ FOR SALE: The War Profiteers is the
story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war.

Acclaimed director Robert Greenwald takes you inside the lives of
soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed
forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq.
Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between private corporations
making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who allow them to do so.

**7pm Gardner Auditorium, NAU Franke College of Business

March 6th THE GROUND TRUTH
THE GROUND TRUTH: After the Killing Ends, takes an unflinching look
at the training and dehumanization of US soldiers, and how they
struggle to come to terms with it when they come back home.

This film overrides familiar images of heroic soldiers in battle, and
overjoyed returning faces, reunited with their families with one
effortless stroke. Instead, we see a scenario that can include
illness, amputation and injury, depression and post-traumatic stress
disorders (PTSD), of which Iraq has become a fertile breeding ground.
While America's poor treatment of veterans is not news to most, The
Ground Truth makes it so personal and real, it is impossible to
dismiss its characters simply as war statistics.

**7pm Gardner Auditorium, NAU Franke College of Business
